What is Topsoil?
Topsoil is the layer you want when you’re improving beds, filling low spots, or getting a lawn ready for seed. For a large area, it’s usually best to spread it in an even layer (around 5–10cm is typical for levelling and general improvement), rake it out, then lightly firm it so it settles without going rock-hard. If you’re laying turf or seeding, go for a finer, screened topsoil so it’s easier to level and gives roots a clean, even start.
